Balancing Medium and Fitness: A Journey to Wellness

Chapter 1: The Dual Challenge

The clash between pursuing fitness and writing on Medium is real. However, it’s possible to excel in both realms. You can achieve financial success while also prioritizing your health—it's a true win-win! This approach has certainly worked for me, especially since I have a background in professional wrestling.

In August of last year, I decided it was time to take my health seriously. I was frustrated with myself and realized I needed a change. With my extensive writing on Medium, I found myself sitting for prolonged periods, which was not sustainable. I worked on Medium every day, and hours of sitting had to end!

Recognizing the need for a shift, I was faced with a dilemma: focus on fitness or continue earning? I decided to take action by purchasing a treadmill from Facebook Marketplace. That was the moment I completed my first mile!

At that time, I was heavier and lacked strength, but that has changed significantly since then. Here’s a short video of my first mile on the treadmill—take a look!

This was just the beginning. After my stroke, I managed to walk a full mile on the treadmill without stopping. It was a testament to my determination. Medium offers a fantastic feature allowing me to listen to stories, poems, and articles while working out, which has been a game-changer for me. Multitasking has never felt so rewarding!

Chapter 2: Finding the Right Tools

While I often consider investing in a standing desk, priced at just $69 on Amazon, I realized I was letting my health slip. Many of us experience highs and lows; I was in a low point but have since climbed back up, and it’s working for me! I always say, if I can do it, so can you!

I’m not perfect—there are days I skip workouts. Though I generally eat well, I indulge in occasional treats. A few small Almond Joys won’t derail my progress, and their mini size is just enough to satisfy cravings without compromising my goals.

To maintain productivity while exercising, I enjoy longer Medium articles that minimize interruptions. I’m even considering attaching a budget-friendly tablet to my treadmill to enhance my experience. Using a step counter or your phone can also allow you to engage with Medium while exercising.

There are affordable step counters available on Amazon, and I found a stylish watch and step counter combo for just $9.99!

Do you really need to hit 10,000 steps daily? Here’s a quick two-minute video that discusses step counting. Utilizing your phone for Medium while on the move is a popular and effective approach.

Dictation features on most smartphones can help you draft articles or jot down ideas while walking. This way, you can stay productive and active at the same time. Listening to Medium stories makes the time fly during workouts!

If you ever need a break, you can pause and leave a comment, then switch to a new story while continuing your walk—easy as pie!

Recording voice memos with your phone is another great way to capture ideas, quotes, or outlines for your Medium articles. You can always transcribe them later when you sit down to write.

Monitoring your activity with a step counter watch can help you track steps, distance, and even heart rate to keep you motivated. Setting daily or weekly goals and documenting your progress on Medium can also help reinforce your commitment.

Consider using noise-canceling headphones if you often find it hard to concentrate. I found some affordable options for just $5.97!

Lastly, here are some low-impact activities you can do while enjoying Medium stories. Yoga is fantastic for gentle movements, and dance fitness can be a fun way to get your groove on!
