# Embracing My 30s: A Millennial's Perspective on Growth

Written on

Chapter 1: The Transition to My 30s

Reflecting on my teenage years and the entirety of my twenties, I was often preoccupied with trends and the pressure to conform to societal expectations. During that time, I felt shy, inexperienced, and weighed down by a fear of judgment, which left me lacking in self-confidence. However, my 30s mark a significant shift—a period characterized by a liberating "I don’t care" attitude. Here's why this decade has been so transformative for me:

  • I prioritize my own desires and choices.
  • I am deliberate in my decisions and know when to break the mold.
  • I found my soulmate, and we have created a wonderful family together.
  • The opinions of others no longer dictate my self-worth.
  • I perceive people more authentically, seeing beyond facades.
  • I establish clear boundaries in my relationships.
  • I have grown more self-assured in my identity and values.
  • My style has evolved to be more polished and sophisticated.
  • I excel in various skills, from cooking to makeup, particularly in eyebrow shaping.
  • My financial situation has improved, and I have a fulfilling career.
  • I remain authentic to myself, avoiding negative influences and toxic individuals.
  • I express my thoughts and feelings with greater clarity.
  • I openly acknowledge my dislike for alcohol and sushi, and that’s perfectly acceptable.
  • I no longer sweat the small stuff as much.
  • I recognize the importance of health insurance.
  • I attend therapy without shame, embracing the growth it brings.
  • I have gained wisdom and insight through my experiences.
  • My social circle has become more intimate and supportive.
  • I am less susceptible to peer pressure.
  • I choose when I want to engage socially, preferring gatherings with family and close friends over large events. Hosting is not my preference; I enjoy the comfort of home.
  • I have developed a greater appreciation for the world around me, valuing experiences above all.
  • I indulge in good food, often willing to spend more for quality meals.
  • My appreciation for coffee has deepened; I prefer it for its flavor rather than following trends. Bold coffee is my choice, steering clear of overly sweet drinks.
A reflective moment in my 30s

While I don’t consider myself to have become rude, I have always been kind, and I refuse to tolerate disrespect. Life experiences have molded me, and I’ve gained valuable insights in my 30s, for which I am thankful. I feel braver than I once was, and I embrace this change. With just two years until I hit my 40s, I look forward to that milestone, but I can confidently say my 30s have been the most enlightening years of self-discovery.

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of my twenties versus my thirties.
