Chapter 1: Overview of iOS 15.5 Beta 2

Apple has made strides toward the highly anticipated release of iOS 15.5, and the launch of Beta 2 marks a crucial step in this journey. While the first beta introduced numerous modifications, the second iteration brings its own array of important updates.

This update features a variety of beneficial changes, enhancing the user experience significantly.

Section 1.1: Key Features of Beta 2

Beta 2 comes packed with new features that users can look forward to in the public release of iOS 15.5, whether or not they are beta testers.

Subsection 1.1.1: Introduction of the Account Pass

The Apple account card has been rebranded as the Account Pass. This new card is designed to function similarly to the iTunes Pass, allowing users to load cash and utilize it for various purchases, whether in the Apple Store or for digital content such as apps, music, and movies. Additionally, it is anticipated that this card will enable direct payments between iPhones or to NFC-enabled payment systems. Interestingly, Apple has already implemented the Tap-to-Pay API since iOS 15.4.

Section 1.2: Weather App Interface Modification

The default Weather app has undergone a minor yet impactful UI change that enhances the visibility of the inaccuracy reporting feature. Users can now easily access this option by scrolling down the weather page.

Previously, the interface looked like this:

Section 1.3: Safari Icon Update

Apple has also updated the glyph icon for the "Find on Page" feature in Safari. Users can access this command by clicking the share icon on any webpage and scrolling down.

The previous icon was a magnifying glass:

Section 1.4: Introduction of Passkey

A significant addition is the new "Passkey" login method, which utilizes Face ID or Touch ID for authentication on supported websites. This feature simplifies the registration process, eliminating the need for users to create accounts manually on various sites. Furthermore, users can store their passkeys in iCloud for seamless synchronization across devices.

Let’s hear more from Garrett Davidson, an Authentication Experience Engineer at Apple:

Section 1.5: Shazam History Restored

During my exploration of iOS 15.5 Beta 1, I was concerned when I couldn't find a song I had previously Shazamed. Initially, I feared a bug had erased my history. Thankfully, it was just a glitch, and after the update to iOS 15.4 Beta 2, my Shazam history was restored.

To view your Shazam history, simply add the Shazam shortcut to your Control Center and perform a haptic press (tap and hold).

Additionally, Apple has resolved a bug in AirDrop that incorrectly displayed a "waiting" status even when files were sent successfully.
