Embracing Change: Understanding Your Worth in Activism
Written on
Chapter 1: Recognizing Your Value
As an individual striving to foster transformative change for a more sustainable, just, and conscious society, I often find myself caught in the mindset of "not doing enough." This feeling tends to arise when I compare my efforts to those of others. The thought frequently is, "They have made significant contributions impacting thousands and secured funding. If I am intelligent and driven, why haven't I achieved similar results?"
This line of thinking typically leads to procrastination, self-doubt, and a sense of being overwhelmed.
To navigate these feelings, I focus on the following insights:
- I remind myself that the projects I engage in will yield the outcomes I aspire to, provided I continue my efforts over time.
- I acknowledge that there are no shortcuts; the journey of patience and dedication is integral to my purpose here.
- I recognize the substantial positive impact I've already made through guiding meditations, producing a podcast, supporting friends in their healing, and advising individuals building socially responsible enterprises.
The reality is that I am cleansing my mind, striving to act from a place of love, correcting my biases when they emerge, and collaborating to foster grassroots systemic change. At 23, it is unreasonable to expect myself to be a leader in all the diverse areas that captivate my interest.
While some individuals achieve remarkable feats at a young age—like Greta Thunberg, who has galvanized a climate movement as a teenager, or Vitalik Buterin, who established a foundation for equitable governance in his late teens and early twenties—they each have their own unique paths. I have mine, which is vast, intricate, and will require time to fully unfold. By embracing this truth and cultivating patience while persisting in my efforts, I am embodying the change I wish to see, and I am at peace with that.
Section 1.1: The Power of Patience
Understanding that change takes time is crucial. The journey of activism is not a sprint but a marathon, requiring persistence and resilience.

Section 1.2: Learning from Others
While it’s easy to feel inadequate when comparing ourselves to trailblazers, it’s essential to appreciate that everyone’s journey is different.
