# Embracing My True Self: Accepting Imperfections and All

Chapter 1: The Journey to Self-Acceptance

In my previous article, I discussed how I’ve come to accept that I am inherently perfect as I am, and that my attempts at self-improvement often overlooked this truth. After immersing myself in countless self-help resources, I chose to embrace my authentic self, and this decision has proven beneficial overall.

However, good intentions can quickly falter when faced with challenges. Just last night, someone dear to me expressed that their unhappiness stemmed from my circumstances. They referenced the prolonged pain I’ve endured for nearly ten years, my menopause, the complications with hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and my ADHD as the roots of their low mood.

Naturally, this conversation left me feeling devastated. I was all too familiar with this dynamic, having navigated similar discussions with this person before. Yet, something unexpected occurred this time. Rather than succumbing to feelings of guilt or anger, I experienced a moment of clarity amidst the wave of blame.

As they spoke, I felt a spark of realization within me—a bright light illuminating the shadows of their accusations. I stood tall, squared my shoulders, and calmly articulated that while my health challenges might serve as convenient excuses for their emotional state, they were ultimately responsible for their feelings. I had never asked them to shoulder my burdens, nor did I see any justification for my struggles to impact their mood.

I have lived with ADHD my entire life, endured pain for almost a decade, and my menopause is progressing as expected. Therefore, using my issues as a rationale for their distress was unacceptable. More importantly, I recognized that I had reached my limit.

I don't know anyone who has worked as diligently as I have to conform to societal expectations while battling chronic illness and neurodiversity. Over the past decade, I have absorbed countless resources, podcasts, and insights in a quest to improve—primarily for the sake of others.

But now, I declare: enough is enough. I refuse to change who I am or to mold myself to meet someone else's standards. This is who I am. I’m loud, I use colorful language, I’m 48, and I embrace it. I deal with severe pain that can slow me down, I often lose focus, I share openly about my menopause, and I can be talkative. And yes, my memory is often lacking.

Yet, I also possess kindness, generosity, love, and compassion. I have a sense of humor and a sarcastic wit, and if you’re in need, no one will advocate for you more fiercely than I will.

So, I wholeheartedly affirm what I expressed in my last piece: I am perfect—perfect in my own eyes. And that is more than sufficient.

The first video features Tauren Wells' "Take It All Back," a powerful lyrical exploration of self-acceptance and resilience in the face of adversity.

The second video showcases Will Dempsey's "Beat You There," which captures the essence of unwavering support and love, no matter the circumstances.

Section 1.1: Understanding the Weight of Expectations

In grappling with the pressures of external expectations, it's essential to recognize how they can influence our self-perception. We often internalize the beliefs of those around us, which can cloud our understanding of our true worth.

Chapter 2: Moving Forward with Confidence

As I continue on this journey of self-acceptance, I remind myself that embracing my individuality is not only liberating but also empowering. I am determined to live life on my own terms, free from the shackles of others' expectations.
