Transformative Worship: Discovering True Beauty Within

Chapter 1: The Essence of True Beauty
In a recent reading, I encountered a profound idea: generosity is the true source of beauty. Many individuals mistakenly believe that attractiveness stems from makeup, a fit physique, stylish clothing, or strict diets. We often hold these misconceptions, especially in our youth. However, these external attributes do not define beauty; in fact, they can often appear superficial and disingenuous, potentially pushing others away.
Our society suffers from what I term "Beauty Sickness," a condition that impacts everyone across various demographics, including men, women, and people of all ages and backgrounds. This pervasive issue prompts the question: how can we improve our self-perception?
You don’t need to subscribe to a particular faith to find the answer. Turn to the book of Genesis. Yes, that Genesis, from the Bible. When God created the world, He deemed it good, and humanity was labeled "very good." Many interpret this phrase superficially, believing it merely refers to how pleasant our surroundings can be. However, this focus on feeling good can lead to harmful behaviors, including the exploitation of nature and unhealthy obsessions.
Consider the perspective of God creating the moon. Picture stepping back to admire its beauty: the soft glow, the shimmering surface, the changing colors, and the fascinating craters. This awe-inspiring creation is a reflection of God’s artistry. Like any artist, God cherishes His creations and desires to protect them, ensuring they are not diminished or destroyed.
With this understanding, who embodies true beauty? Is it the observer or the observed? One certainty is that those driven by greed, lust, or ego lack genuine self-worth, as they fail to appreciate others or the world around them. They often seek validation through deception.
The deeper lesson in Genesis Chapter 1, in my view, lies in teaching us how to honor God through our appreciation of creation and our inherent self-worth. By recognizing the beauty in all life, we engage in an act of worship that enhances our own beauty. After all, who creates like God? No one. We are continually uncovering new facets of life and beauty.
