Initially, I struggled with self-doubt regarding my ability to sell. However, in just 30 days, I managed to generate over $800 from digital product sales. While it may not be a fortune, I've successfully opened a new $10k annual income stream in conjunction with my full-time job and solo business.
Here’s how I achieved it:
Understanding Income Streams
I’ve dedicated the past year to building my online presence. Although I started writing five years ago, I only began developing a business framework in May 2023. I had always envisioned an online business that could sell effortlessly to a global audience, and now, that vision has become a reality.
The most exciting aspect of this income source is that it is:
- Scalable
- Permissionless
- Operates 24/7
- Requires minimal initial investment
- Needs no ongoing fulfillment
To me, earning $1 passively through digital products holds far more value than $5 earned through a traditional job. While there's no precise calculation for this, it’s a feeling I can’t ignore.
#### The Freedom Factor
I would much prefer to earn $100k from digital products rather than be tied to a $500k salary. With the former, I gain freedom—the ability to travel and live life on my terms. Conversely, the high salary would likely lead to being trapped in a demanding job, chained to a desk, and unable to build leverage for myself. Each dollar of that salary would require active effort.
The Key Obstacles: Mindset and Skillset
The two main barriers to success are:
- Skillset: If you can master:
- Sales
- Marketing
- Content creation
You’ll never find yourself financially constrained. The internet provides numerous resources to learn these skills at little to no cost. Many people fail to invest time in learning new skills, so this gives you the opportunity to rise to the top 5% of earners in just 6 to 12 months. Your earning potential is limited only by the skills you possess.
- Mindset: I faced numerous limiting beliefs regarding selling. I often felt uneasy about charging for my products, apologizing when stating prices. This mindset kept me stagnant for years.
Shifting Perspectives on Selling
Over the past year, I've made significant mindset shifts:
- Selling as Service: Selling is not about taking advantage of others; it’s about deeply understanding and addressing their needs.
- Everyone is Selling: Whether posting on social media or delivering a presentation, we are all engaged in sales. For instance, doctors persuade patients about prescriptions, lawyers convince juries, and parents encourage kids to eat healthy.
I'm still working through my limiting beliefs, but I’ve made substantial progress. I've become more confident in my pricing, and I genuinely believe in the products I offer.
#### The Launch Experience
I released my first digital product in March 2023 but kept it under wraps until I was ready. Despite pouring months of research into it, I launched to silence—barely anyone engaged, and the disappointment was crushing.
My mistake? I delayed launching for too long.
Now, I:
- Repurpose existing content into e-books or templates.
- Launch products without waiting for perfection.
My product creation and launch timeline has shrunk from three months to mere weeks, and sometimes even days. The fastest I’ve launched a product took just one hour.
The Iteration Cycle
With digital products, you can quickly adapt and improve based on user feedback. Follow this roadmap:
- Launch quickly
- Gather customer feedback
- Iterate rapidly
- Repeat the process within two days
I’ve invested in various courses, but the real learning came from execution. Instead of accumulating knowledge, I focused on action.
