Traditionally, the speed of this indexing (the process of updating a search engine's records) has depended largely on the number of links pointing to a page—more links generally lead to faster indexing—along with a strong internal linking structure, assuming your site holds authority.
In the previous year, Bing and Yandex introduced a new indexing protocol known as IndexNow, sparking discussions about its implications for website managers. This week's podcast delves into the meaning of this protocol and its potential real-world applications. Following their trials, Google announced in November that it would also begin testing IndexNow.

IndexNow represents a significant shift away from the traditional model where webmasters wait for search bots to crawl their sites. Instead, it functions as a direct request to search engines to acknowledge changes—essentially a 'ping' indicating that a page is new, updated, or removed. The primary objective is to facilitate the rapid update of search engine results with the latest information from your site. It's important to note that this does not guarantee that your entire website will be indexed. Additionally, the existing crawl limits—how often a search engine visits your site—remain unchanged. Frequent pings won’t necessarily prompt an immediate re-indexing; if overused, search engines may even disregard your requests.

My preferred approach, which requires no coding or additional updates, is through CloudFlare. By utilizing their Free Tier solution, you can also enhance your site's speed and security, both of which contribute positively to SEO. Activating crawler hints in CloudFlare is also beneficial, as it avoids the risk of excessive pings.
It’s worth noting that CloudFlare is a trusted service that minimizes the risk of malicious code, unlike plugins, which, while generally reliable, could still pose risks.
